About us

Welcome to the Swyn Weavers Kindred!

We are a small, informal, inclusive Heathen community based in South-Wales (UK), though we also operate online and may host events further afield from time to time.

Our group's purpose is to foster frith and community with individuals who identify as polytheists, Heathens, and various other contemporary Pagan identities, as well as those who are curious to learn more (and make friends!). We want to provide opportunities for conversation, rituals and ceremonies, Pagan education, and connection to the deities, ancestors, and landwights.

Our group is non-hierarchical and we aim to take it in turns to lead events and blots. Some of our members have had training in certain contemporary Pagan traditions, though none are recognised by the community as fulfilling the role of gyðja, goði, or völva in Heathen traditions (yet!).

We organise local rituals and celebrations at seasonal festivals throughout the year an, on occasion, trips and camping events. There are organsied and advertised within the wider community of the Swansea Pagan Moot.

We firmly advocate for Inclusive Heathenry, valuing and inviting the involvement and collaboration of all people, inclusive of their gender, sexual orientation, physical and learning abilities, economic background, ethnicity, and race. Children are welcome to many of our events with a guardian (unless there is a reason for why we think an event not not be suitable - in which case we will specify). We seek to co-create an inclusive and affirming community that uplifts and celebrates each individual and condemns bigotry. As such, we support and have signed Declaration 127 and the Declaration of Deeds and recommend that all Heathen groups display their stance on this clearly so that people can easily identify groups who will provide a safe and affirmative space for them. We absolutely condemn the appropriation of Heathen culture and history for the use of bigotry, racism, homophobia, transphobia etc., which we find to be both morally reprehensible and incompatible with our vision of modern heathenry.

A note on accessibility:

Sometimes our events are hosted outdoors, especially when they involve a fire or seek to engage directly with the season and landwights. On such occasions, the terrain may not be as accommodating to all people as we would like and so we aim to balance this with events hosted indoors with greater access.

Some events can involve non-obligatory alcohol consumption, or are hosted in venues selling alcohol. We are working with the Swansea Pagan Moot to participate in alcohol-free cafe moots in the future.

As people's needs can be extremely varied, we acknowledge that we won't always find the perfect location every time (especially as we do not charge for our events to cover room fees); we will, however, always make an effort to do what we can to make people comfortable and able to attend. If you have any concerns or need clarification on what each location or event involves, please get in touch beforehand.
