Beltane Celebration, Camping (& Handfasting) May 2022

On the 7th May 2022 we are hosting a moot Beltane celebration in a private wood near the Gower! This will involve a Beltane ceremony and camping for those who wish to stay the night. The Beltane ceremony will have heathen elements blended in with folk traditions (i.e. a May Pole). There will also be a Handfasting ceremony held between two of our community members, which will take place a short while after the Beltane ceremony. Beltane attendees aren't obliged to stay for this, but are welcome.

For the purpose of safety, we won't advertise the location here, but please get in touch via the comment form at the bottom of this blog if you're interested, or apply to join the Swansea Pagan Moot FaceBook page.

Information for the Beltane ceremony & location:
  • There are several people who need to car-share - so please ask around!
  • The event might not be suitable for young children, but please ask the organisers if you're unsure.
  • There is shelter in case of rain, and multiple fire pits. *This event will go on no matter the weather - unless its literally unsafe. We are rain-friendly Heathens!*
  • As this event is outside, the terrain may be muddy or difficult for some people to navigate.
  • There is space for parking and compost toilets (up a flight of stairs).
  • Please bring food and drink to share, as well as flowers and offerings - if you want to thank or ask something of the deities/spirits/ancestors, then bring something to offer them! Firewood is also gratefully received.
  • Drums and percussion instruments are recommended!
  • And consider attending looking festive! (i.e. face-paint, foliage, garlands, horns - whatever you fancy)
  • Please do a lateral flow test before and after the event. (And - Gods' willing not - if you test positive for Covid afterwards, let organisers know asap.)

Timetable:

  • Those who are camping can start arriving from 10am to get set up and settled.
  • The Beltane celebration is due to start around 13:30pm; if you are not camping then we recommend you arrive by 13:00pm. This should last until approx 15:00pm.
  • Olivia and Thomas' Handfasting will start at 4:30pm, for those who would like to join us.
  • Non-camping attendees are welcome to stay as long as they like into the evening, providing they have a safe way home.
  • We leave the site by 12:00pm on Sunday
Information for camping:
  • Camping is only £5 per person! And if you want pancakes for breakfast it will be £7 in total.
  • The deadline for booking camping will be 30th April, after which the form will be taken down.
  • We'll be sharing a pot luck dinner, so please contribute food and drink, in addition to your own subsistence snacks for the duration of the camp.
  • Please bring your own camping gear or camper van. There is a converted scouts hut on site if you would prefer sleeping there (image on camping form). It will be dry, but you need to be soft bedding for the wooden bed palettes.
  • You can book your camping spot by responding to this form: https://forms.gle/HM1xBmJ1YnSK1VNA9
  • If you are staying into the evening, or camping, please note that a few hours after the Beltane part of the Moot event, there will be a Handfasting ceremony between Olivia and Thomas. You don't have to join in, but will be welcomed.
